Finding Balance On The Move with Ayurveda: A Client’s Healing Journey

In a time when protocols, strict regimes and certainty are held as gold standard, Ayurveda offers a refreshing approach that appreciates the dynamic nature of life. This case shows how our cultivation of wellbeing needs to recognise and adapt to real life.

When Conventional Healthcare Falls Short

When my client first came to see me, she was tired — not just physically, but emotionally too. She told me:

“Nothing else was working for me, and I was having side effects with prescription medicine.”

Her main concerns were hot flushes, stomach pain, and a burning sensation while passing urine – an issue she kept getting prescribed antibiotics for. On top of that, she felt constantly lethargic. It’s a combination of symptoms that can be deeply uncomfortable and frustrating, especially when conventional options offer little relief. That’s when she turned to Ayurveda – not as a last resort, but as a new way to understand her body.

Looking Beyond Symptoms

From an Ayurvedic perspective, these symptoms often point towards an imbalance in the body’s internal energies, or doshas. In her case, elevated Pitta dosha and digestive imbalance were playing a big role. She shared that she had little awareness of Ayurveda before this, saying:

“There wasn’t much awareness and I didn’t have a choice. But as Kirit did a thorough consultation, I felt she understood me properly.”

That early connection and sense of being heard was an important turning point. An Ayurvedic consultation takes time to see the whole person — their habits, emotions, digestion, and environment. As she put it:

“When you go to the doctors, they only have 10 minutes and don’t have the understanding of the doshas and all that that can be the root cause of the symptoms.”

In contrast, Ayurveda aims to treat the person as a whole and asks why the symptoms are there in the first place.

The Healing Process: Support, Connection and Balance

Together, we explored her Prakriti (constitution) and Vikriti (current imbalance), tailoring a plan that addressed her digestive fire, supported her nervous system, and pacified excess heat. Through herbal formulations, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle guidance, she began to feel gradual improvement.

She described the consultation process as -

“very comfortable, as she listened to me carefully. Ongoing support was good – all my questions were answered”

That ongoing guidance is essential in Ayurveda, where healing is understood to be dynamic and requires self-awareness and adaptability over time.

Learning to Stay Balanced On-the-Go

One unique aspect of her life is frequent travel for volunteer work. In the past, these disruptions would leave her feeling off-balance and unwell with changes in food habits and sleep patterns. Through our sessions, she learned how to recognise her doshic patterns and tendencies and respond more intuitively to these changes before they escalated.

We discussed the 80:20 rule – aiming to maintain a dosha-supportive routine around 80% of the time, while allowing room for life’s natural fluctuations and uncertainties the other 20%. This practical mindset has made a big difference. She now travels with confidence and far less disruption as she knows how to buffer the effects of irregular schedules and new environments. This created a sense of ease for her as her volunteering is an important connection to her faith.

Transformation from the Inside Out

Over the following months her symptoms began to ease. She told me she had five whole months without experiencing cystitis – something that she used to have a frequent tendency towards. Her digestion and energy levels also both improved a great deal.

She later shared:

“Ayurvedic medicine has helped me so much that my symptoms have almost all gone.”

But beyond the physical relief, she experienced a deeper shift:

“Once the doshas are balanced, some of your feelings get better anyway”

This last insight captures one of Ayurveda’s biggest gifts – that healing doesn’t stop at symptom relief. It restores vitality and emotional stability too. When we hyper-focus on symptoms alone, we can lose sight of the wider connections and lose trust in our own internal experience and knowledge. Ayurvedic insight helps us to strengthen our relationship with our inner compass.

Healing the Root Cause

Looking back, she describes Ayurveda simply:

“It’s the mode that treats the issue from the root”

That’s the essence of Ayurveda – understanding what’s out of place and gently guiding the body back to a natural state of balance. For her, the results were tangible – reduced inflammation, restored digestion, better energy, and a greater sense of self-understanding.

Her story is a reminder that wellbeing isn’t about perfection, a destination or rigid routines. It’s about awareness, adaptability and self-belief. Ayurveda offers timeless tools for this – a way to respond to life’s shifts while staying grounded and confident in your own unique rhythm.
